Charioteer terms of use
Important: Charioteer is not medical advice
Charioteer is not a medical service or a medical device and is not for emergencies.
- If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999.
- For urgent medical advice, call NHS 111.
- To talk to someone at any time, call Samaritans free on 116 123.
If you drink heavily, do not stop suddenly without medical help. Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous. Speak to your GP or call NHS 111 first.
1. About these terms
These terms apply to the Charioteer app ("Charioteer Sober Coach" on the App Store), including the AI coach Thumos. Charioteer is provided by Quantica Labs Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17124284), registered office 14a Mill Close, Borrowash, Derby, DE72 3GU ("we", "us"). Contact: hello@quanticalabs.co.uk.
When you create an account you are asked to tick to accept these terms and our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use Charioteer.
2. Who can use Charioteer
You must be 18 or over. Charioteer is currently in an invite-only beta, delivered through Apple TestFlight. You need an invitation to join.
3. Price
Charioteer is currently in an invite-only beta and free to use during the beta. If we introduce paid features later, we will tell you the price in the app before you pay anything.
4. Health and safety
Please read this section carefully.
- Not medical advice. Charioteer and Thumos are not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and Charioteer is not a medical device.
- Not a substitute for professionals. Charioteer does not replace your GP, a dietitian, a qualified coach or personal trainer, or an addiction or mental health professional.
- Not for emergencies. Charioteer cannot call for help for you. In an emergency call 999. For urgent advice call NHS 111. Samaritans: 116 123.
- Stop if you are unwell. If you feel unwell, faint, in pain or injured during exercise or a diet change, stop and get medical advice.
- Check with a doctor first before making big changes to your drinking, diet, exercise or weight, especially if you have a medical condition, take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a history of eating disorders, or are dependent on alcohol.
- Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous. If you drink heavily or every day, get medical help before you stop.
- AI can be wrong. Thumos replies, health plans, meal estimates and gratitude reflections are written by an AI model. They can be inaccurate, incomplete or unsuitable for you.
- Device data can be wrong. Readings from Apple Health, wearables and other devices can be inaccurate or missing.
- Comparisons are references, not targets. Fitness and health comparison bands are general population references. They are not personal targets or a medical assessment.
- Your decisions are your own. You are responsible for the decisions you make about your health, diet, exercise and drinking.
5. Guidance is general information only
The guidance in Charioteer is a general guide only. It is based on general, publicly available information. We have not verified the sources or validated the information for your personal circumstances. Always get advice from a suitably qualified professional before dieting or changing your health or exercise routine.
6. How Thumos and notifications work: xAI and Expo
Some features use two outside services:
- xAI (the company behind Grok, in the United States) powers Thumos, health plans, gratitude reflections and meal estimates. To do this, our servers send xAI your messages and the relevant information, such as days sober, recent check-ins, a short health and fitness summary, and any meal photo you ask us to estimate.
- Expo (in the United States) delivers notifications about new direct messages. We send Expo your device's push token and the alert text. Message content is not sent.
We only send your information to xAI and Expo with your express permission, and only to make these features work. Because this includes health information, we ask for that permission with a separate consent tick in the app, not as part of accepting these terms. You can use the rest of Charioteer without it. You can withdraw it at any time in the Profile tab. If you do, Thumos, health plans, meal estimates and message notifications turn off. Withdrawing does not affect what was sent before.
When you use these features, you agree to use them in line with the third parties' rules, which apply to how those services are used:
- xAI: Terms of Service – Enterprise (the terms that cover our use of xAI's API), Acceptable Use Policy, Privacy Policy and Data Processing Addendum.
- Expo: Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Our privacy policy explains what each provider receives and how long they keep it.
7. We never share your information for marketing or research
We never share any user's information with any party for marketing or research, and we never sell it. We share information only with the service providers who run Charioteer for us, with other members only what you choose to share, or where the law requires it.
8. Your data
Your data is stored with Supabase in London, UK (region eu-west-2). You can download a copy of your data or delete your account at any time in the Profile tab. See support for the steps.
9. Community rules
The community is optional and for adults only. Be kind and lawful. Do not harass, threaten, bully or impersonate anyone, share other people's private information, or post sexual, hateful, violent or illegal content. Do not encourage anyone to drink or to harm themselves. You can block and report people. We may remove content, and suspend or close accounts, that break these rules.
10. Your content
You keep ownership of what you add. You allow us to store and process it only to run Charioteer for you, and to show the items you choose to share to other community members. You must have the right to share any photo you add.
11. Using Charioteer properly
Do not misuse Charioteer: for example, do not try to break its security, access other people's data, reverse engineer it, or use it to create harmful content.
12. Beta and changes
During the beta, features may change, stop working or be removed, and the app may be unavailable at times. We may update these terms. If a change is important, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
13. Ending your use
You can stop using Charioteer and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if we end the beta. If we close the service, we will try to give you notice so you can download your data.
14. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Your legal rights as a consumer are not affected.
Otherwise, and as far as the law allows:
- Charioteer is provided free during the beta, "as is" and "as available". We do not promise it will be error-free or always available.
- We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable, for losses caused by your own decisions about your health, diet, exercise or drinking, for inaccurate AI output or device readings, or for business losses.
- We are not responsible for services we do not control, such as Apple Health, TestFlight, xAI or Expo.
15. General
These terms are the agreement between you and us. Apple's standard licensed application end user licence agreement also applies to your use of the app. If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest still applies. Nobody else has rights under these terms.
16. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts. Please contact us first at hello@quanticalabs.co.uk and we will try to sort things out.
